Premier's Christmas Deadline for Public Servant Probe, 2023

Tas Labor

After backflipping from his initial position of taking no action whatsoever, the Premier needs to let the public know before Christmas the outcomes of his Departmental Secretary's "urgent review" of the fact it has taken his government years to investigate public servants accused of child sex offences.

And given his government has been paying these people their full salary throughout those investigations, he must also immediately confirm the total cost to taxpayers.

The Premier's decision to task his Department Secretary with looking into this matter-the very person he's had in charge all along-won't fill anyone with a great deal of confidence.

If the Premier fails to report back before Christmas and release the findings made by his Department Secretary this will appear to be yet another "investigation" that goes nowhere.

After 10 years of Liberal government, and at a time when Tasmanians are struggling more than ever with the cost of living, they cannot believe their money is being spent in this way.

We will continue to hold the Premier accountable on this very important issue.
