Project Delivering Transformation Of Harris Park Amenities Building

The $1.6-million-dollar project to upgrade and modernise Wagga Wagga's Harris Park amenities to make it more female-friendly and accessible is entering the final stretch.

Works commenced in August 2025 on the refurbishment and extension of the existing amenities building at this important facility, located on Mount Austin, which is used for cricket and rugby league competitions, as well as by the broader community.

Council's Recreation Coordinator Josh Walsh says Stage 1 of the upgrade is close to completion, with work well underway on Stage 2 by Wagga Ruby League (WRL) volunteers and trades workers.

"The Stage 1 works have involved the demolition internally of the old change rooms – showers and toilets – and a reworking of existing spaces to create new change rooms that are more female-friendly," Mr Walsh said.

"Two new changerooms have been constructed at either end of the existing building, with a final fit-out process currently taking place.

"The new bathrooms include accessible and ambulant toilets, while the concreting around the perimeter is under way."

The canteen has also been upgraded and a new meeting space created in the centre of the building, which will provide access to one of the features of Stage 2 of the upgrade, a new second-storey area overlooking the field.

"While there are still parts of this project to be completed, the transformation of the old 1960s facilities is already eye-catching," Mr Walsh said.

"Once it opens, the new facility will be a great asset for the sporting clubs who use Harris Park and, in particular, the growing number of female players who now participate in rugby league in Wagga Wagga and the wider Riverina."

Funding for this project includes $985,000 from the NSW Office of Sport, $318,000 from Wagga Wagga City Council, with the final contribution provided by WRL.
