Property Council ACT & Capital Region Executive Director Ashlee Berry said the draft framework recognised the need to plan for growth and provide more housing choice along a key transport corridor.
"Canberra is growing and we need to plan for that growth now by delivering more homes in locations close to jobs, services, shops and public transport," Ms Berry said.
"We strongly support the Government's focus on transit-oriented development and creating more housing opportunities in established areas. These are exactly the types of planning approaches for which we've advocated to improve housing supply and affordability over the long term.
"We welcome the release of the draft framework and the opportunity for industry, landowners and the broader community to help shape the future of this important corridor."
Ms Berry said the framework represented a good starting point, but important questions would need to be explored through the consultation process.
"The draft vision is ambitious, and we look forward to working through the detail with the Government over the coming weeks.
"One of the key questions will be whether the proposed density settings, particularly around rapid transport stops and key centres, maximise the opportunity to deliver housing where it is needed most.
"If we're investing in major transport infrastructure and planning for a city of the future, we need to make sure we're getting the most from those opportunities and delivering the right number of homes to meet future demand."
Ms Berry said it would also be important that planning for housing growth was accompanied by appropriate community infrastructure, employment opportunities and a clear pathway to delivery.
"Discussion on the future of the Phillip service trades precinct will be important. We recognise the critical role the precinct plays in supporting Canberra's trade sectors and welcome the Government's recognition of its economic significance.
"As Canberra continues to grow, it will be important that planning settings support both housing supply and project feasibility so that homes can be delivered at the scale required."
"We'll undertake a detailed review of the framework over the coming weeks and work closely with members ahead of providing a formal submission to Government."
