Provisional Driver Excessive Speeding On Bass Highway, Hagley

A provisional driver will be disqualified for at least 4 months after he was detected travelling at excessive speed on the Bass Highway at Hagley on Saturday evening 28 August 2021. Members from the Northern Road Safety Task Force detected a Black Honda Accord travelling at 158km/h (110km/h zone) where it was intercepted.

The 22 male driver from Newnham has been issued with an infringement notice for traveling at 45km/h or more which also attracts a monetary penalty of $994.75 and 6 demerit points.

Tasmania Police Service are very concerned that road users continue to drive at such high speeds on our roads, on this occasion 48 kms over the speed limit. Such behaviour not only puts themselves at risk, but other road users also. On this occasion, there was a male passenger in the vehicle and the driver was the holder of a P2 provisional driver licence. Police would like to remind people to always obey speed limits and slow down on our roads. Speeding is one of our 'fatal five' contributors to serious and fatal crashes and Tasmania Police will continue to conduct hi-visibility patrols on our highways to ensure drivers adjust their behaviour and help keep everyone safe.
