Police have charged four people after the pursuit of a woman, allegedly driving a wanted man, led to the location of another wanted man and a woman in breach of bail in the state's Murray River region yesterday.
Just before 10am (Wednesday 1 September 2021), officers from Murray River Police District were patrolling the Albury area when they observed a man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, travelling as a passenger in a silver Hyundai Tucson.
While police were conducting a U-turn to stop the vehicle, the female driver allegedly sped off, crossing onto the wrong side of the road, and driving through a red traffic light, almost hitting another vehicle.
Officers did not pursue the vehicle at this time.
About 10.20am, the Tucson was sighted on Young Street, and when police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver again failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
After travelling through a number of streets, the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
Police again spotted the Tucson on Alldis Avenue, Lavington, about 10.45am, where the vehicle stopped, and the 32-year-old female driver and her 31-year-old female passenger were arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.
The driver was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously-second offence, and two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period-second offence. She was also issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for a breach of the Public Health Order.
She appeared at Albury Local Court, where she was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Monday 13 September 2021.
The female passenger was issued a $1000 PIN for a breach of the Public Health Order and directed to return home.
Following further inquiries, officers attended a home on McDonald Road, Lavington, just before 11am, where they located the wanted man hiding behind a couch.
During a search of the man, police located and seized a 5.5cm penknife.
Police spoke with three other occupants, before also arresting a 21-year-old woman a 22-year-old man, while a 21-year-old man was issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for a breach of the Public Health Order.
The two older men and the woman were taken to Albury Police Station.
A 36-year-old man was charged with outstanding warrants and possess/use a prohibited weapon without permit. He was also issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for a breach of the Public Health Order.
He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Thursday 2 September 2021).
The 21-year-old man was charged with outstanding warrants and assault police and resist police. He was also issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for a breach of the Public Health Order.
He appeared at Albury Local Court, where he was refused bail to appear at the same court today (Thursday 2 September 2021).
A 22-year-old woman was charged with breach of bail and appeared at Albury Local Court, where she was granted strict conditional bail to re-appear at the same court on Friday 29 October 2021. She was also issued a $1000 Penalty Infringement Notice for a breach of the Public Health Order.
