Alice Springs residents will benefit from an expansion to Qantas' discounted fares program, with return flights to Adelaide for locals to cost less from today.
Discounts start at 20 per cent and apply to all economy seats on every flight to Adelaide.
The maximum residents will pay will be around $400 per sector when booking return journeys ($800 return).[1]
Alice Springs residents continue to have access to discounted return fares to Darwin, which were introduced in November 2018. Since then, more than 5000 residents have booked discounted fares.
QantasLink CEO John Gissing said it was the first time the airline had included an interstate route in its discounted fares program.
"We have listened to the community who have told us that along with Darwin, a lot of residents have ties to Adelaide, and we're delighted we're now able to expand the discounted fares program," Mr Gissing said.
"This gives Alice Springs locals more choice if they need to travel to see family and friends or access services.
"Importantly, residents will have access to these discounted fares during peak travel periods or when they need to make a last-minute booking for things like urgent medical appointments.
"Qantas has a long history in the Northern Territory and the expansion of this program is demonstration of our commitment to supporting Territory communities."
Alice Springs-Adelaide is the 16th route covered under the national carrier's discounted resident fares program.
The program is part of a broader suite of initiatives designed to support regional Australia including tourism marketing for the Territory and the recently expanded regional grants program.
HOW QANTAS' RESIDENT FARES WORK
1. Go to the dedicated resident fare website - qantas.com/residentfares
2. Click on the "Book Now" button
3. Enter your Frequent Flyer details - If you are not a member it's quick and free to join for residents
4. Search for return flights between Alice Springs and Adelaide/Darwin. Lowest return fares available will be displayed with discounts automatically applied.
5. Pick your fare and book
The discount applies to the Qantas-controlled component of return fares (which excludes airport charges, security fees and GST) and is available on all Economy fares for personal travel; including same-day flights, last-minute trips or trips during peak travel times. Discounts are not available on sale fares or Business fares.
Resident fares vary between regional towns and fare levels will be reviewed periodically to consider inflation or other cost increases. Qantas will continue to offer residents sale fares below these levels from time to time.
Each resident can use the discount on up to 12 return trips for personal travel each year.
