Outstanding individuals and teams from across Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) have been recognised at the 2026 Commissioner's Awards for Excellence in Brisbane today (3 November 2026).
The annual awards celebrate officers who have gone above and beyond to restore community safety, reduce reoffending through rehabilitation, support safer workplaces and build stronger community partnerships.
The Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber presented the Minister's Award for Excellence to Superintendent Evie Georgas ACM, Deputy General Manager, Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre for her work to deliver the new correctional centre's operational readiness and fast-tracked safe opening in September 2025.

The Commissioner's Overall Award was awarded to Wolston Correctional Centre Cultural Liaison Officer Mark Brimble whose exceptional cultural leadership has transformed workforce capability across the agency to support reform and rehabilitation, and strengthened connections between QCS, First Nations communities and people in custody.

Retired officer John Peel, representative of the Boggo Road Retired Officers Association, was presented a special award for championing the recognition of former officers and preserving their place in Queensland's correctional history.

Eight officers were also recognised with the Commissioner's Meritorious and Ethical Service Medal for service performed with meritorious conduct.
Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber MP congratulated the award recipients.
"Queensland's corrective services officers perform demanding and often unseen work to keep our communities safe, support victims and help reduce reoffending," Minister Gerber said.
"These recipients have demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism, integrity and commitment to community safety, going above and beyond to perform their duties every day.
"I congratulate every winner and acknowledge the thousands of officers across the State who give their all, every single day, to help deliver a safer Queensland."

QCS Acting Commissioner Jon Peach said the awards highlighted the breadth and impact of work performed across the agency.
"Our officers work in complex environments and make decisions every day that keep correctional facilities, workplaces and communities safe," Acting Commissioner Peach said.
"This year's recipients have delivered practical initiatives, shown strong leadership and built partnerships that make a meaningful difference to restoring safety in communities across Queensland.
"I am proud to recognise their achievements and thank our entire workforce for its continued dedication to public safety."
