  • The Crisafulli Government is pulling every lever to unlock housing supply and reverse Labor's housing crisis.

  • New trunk infrastructure is part of unlocking almost 100 homes across North West Queensland.

The Crisafulli Government is accelerating housing delivery in Mount Isa, partnering with Mount Isa City Council to fast track works in Healy Heights to unlock the first tranche of almost 100 new homes across North West Queensland.

Funded through the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, the project is delivering essential trunk infrastructure such as roads, water and sewerage to turn land into homes.

Construction has started on the Gliderport Road upgrade and associated works, including associated stormwater infrastructure and lighting to support new housing development.

The $12.5 million project will ease pressure on existing road, water and sewer services and improve access as the Mt Isa community grows, reversing a decade of decline where land was left languishing under Labor.

The Residential Activation Fund is part of the Crisafulli Government's Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan to unlock supply and deliver more homes sooner, with at least half of the $2 billion dedicated to regional Queensland.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the Crisafulli Government was focused on pulling every lever to unlock housing supply and reverse Labor's Housing Crisis.

"After a decade of decline under Labor, when housing approvals dropped 29 percent, the Crisafulli Government is investing in the infrastructure that turns land into homes and gets shovels in the ground," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

"Availability equals affordability and projects like Healy Heights will help deliver more homes for Mount Isa sooner.

"We are committed to reversing Labor's damage in regional Queensland and this is why we have dedicated more than half of the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund to fast-tracking regional housing projects, because every Queenslander deserves a place to call home."

Mount Isa City Council Mayor Peta MacRae said the milestone marked a significant step forward for the region.

"Healy Heights is part of Mount Isa's growth story and the construction of Gliderport Road is critical to ensuring we have the services in place to support a thriving community," Mayor MacRae said.

"This project will fast-track land supply by providing the infrastructure needed for the future Gliderport Development.

"With this infrastructure in place, Council will be assisted to alleviate future housing demand and ensure more families can call Mount Isa home sooner."

Round Two of the Crisafulli Government's Residential Activation Fund will deliver an extra $500 million for councils and developers to unlock land across Queensland through essential trunk infrastructure projects.
