- This is one of several initiatives the Crisafulli Government is investing in to improve drought resilience to the Southern Downs region.
The Crisafulli Government is committed to improving water security in Stanthorpe, today announcing funding to progress Emu Swamp Dam.
Under Labor's decade of decline, they swept funding from Dam projects with not a single new dam built, leaving Queensland's water security to fall behind.
The Crisafulli Government is taking practical steps to progress critical water infrastructure and strengthen drought preparedness across regional Queensland.
The project is one of several initiatives the Crisafulli Government has invested in to improve drought resilience to the Southern Downs region, including progressing upgrades to surrounding water treatment systems and upgrades to the Leslie Dam.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the announcement was another step towards securing drought resilience for Stanthorpe.
"Work will build on previous studies and address the challenges that have previously impacted the project, ensuring all options are properly assessed," Minister Leahy said.
"This investment forms part of our broader commitment to improve drought resilience and deliver long-term water security for regional Queensland communities.
"The Crisafulli Government is delivering on a regional water security plan for the Southern Downs region that will meet the needs of the community and farmers, now and into the future."
Member for Southern Downs James Lister said the funding announcement was an important step towards securing the region's long-term water future.
"Communities across the Southern Downs understand that investing in reliable water infrastructure is investing in local jobs, a stronger agricultural sector and a more prosperous future for the region," Mr Lister said.
"Investing in water security for Stanthorpe means more water retained in Warwick, improving the water security of both communities."
