Today National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke with Masih Alinejad and her husband Kambiz Foroohar following the arrest of an armed individual outside their home in New York. Alinejad is a leading American activist, journalist, and champion for human rights and women's equality in Iran. On behalf of President Biden, Mr. Sullivan expressed his profound concern over Alinejad's physical safety, and commended the work of law enforcement agencies for their actions to ensure the protection of Alinejad and her family.

Mr. Sullivan also affirmed that the U.S. Government will use all tools at its disposal to disrupt and deter threats from Iran, including those which target U.S. citizens and dissidents living in the United States. He further noted that President Biden will continue to receive updates on her situation, and indicated that the United States stands with Alinejad and all those in Iran who demand equal rights and dignity.
