From 25 to 31 October, communities around the world recognise Ace Week, followed by Intersex Awareness Day on 26 October.
These days provide an opportunity to increase understanding and awareness of the diversity of people in our community, and to reflect on the importance of creating places where everyone feels respected, included and valued.
Ace Week is an international campaign that celebrates and raises awareness of the ace community. The term "ace" is an umbrella term that includes identities such as asexual and aromantic, and people who don't or rarely experience sexual or romantic attraction.
Intersex Awareness Day recognises people born with natural variations in sex characteristics, including variations in chromosomes, hormones, reproductive organs or anatomy. The day aims to increase visibility, promote understanding, and support the rights, dignity and wellbeing of intersex people.
As part of Council's commitment to inclusion and belonging, the LGBTIQA+ Action Plan provides a framework for supporting and celebrating the diversity of our community. City of Monash is committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming municipality where people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences feel safe, respected and valued.
Recognising days of significance such as Ace Week and Intersex Awareness Day helps raise awareness of the diverse communities that make up Monash and encourages understanding, respect and belonging for all.
