Refugee Week 2021: Bayside

Bayside Council coordinated a student run program on refugee rights at J J Cahill Memorial High School to celebrate the theme of unity as part of Refugee Week 2021.

Bayside Council worked in in partnership with SECC and 2 Connect Youth and Community on the 10-week student program at J J Cahill.

Students produced a short video on a Refugee Rights video called Refugee Stories that was shown at a mini expo at the school on Tuesday 22 June 2021.

Noel Zihabamwe from Sydney Multicultural Community Services mentored the students who interviewed people with a refugee background to produce a short film telling their stories.

In the process the students discovered more about Australian refugees and their distinctive backgrounds

Council would like to thank Noel Zihabamwe, Tsechu Lhamo and Tsering Thangsur for participating in the program.
