REIWA's 2026 Sleeping Bag Appeal has collected over 500 sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing and other essential items to support Western Australians experiencing homelessness this Winter.
This year's appeal was supported by 28 REIWA member agencies across Perth and Kalgoorlie, including REIWA House.
Together, they helped collect sleeping bags, blankets, warm clothing and other essential items for people sleeping rough, living in vehicles or without safe and stable accommodation.
The items will now make their way through The Salvation Army's Doorways service, where they will be provided to those who need them most.
REIWA CEO Blaine Slater said the Appeal was a reminder that small acts of generosity could have a meaningful impact.
"It's easy to underestimate what a sleeping bag, blanket or warm coat can mean to someone who does not have a safe place to stay," he said.
"These items offer warmth, comfort and a bit of dignity during a very difficult time.
"I'd like to acknowledge every agency that opened its doors as a collection point, along with the team at REIWA House and everyone who donated.
"What stood out this year was the way members brought their local communities into the appeal. One agency collected approximately 20 boxes of donations, while another received handmade beanies from a local resident who knitted them especially for the appeal.
"These are small, personal acts of generosity, but together they add up to something meaningful for people doing it tough."
The Salvation Army's Warren Palmer said the simple gift of a sleeping bag or blanket makes an immeasurable difference to someone facing the absolute crisis of homelessness.
"A sleeping bag is more than just bedding - it provides temporary shelter, insulation from the frozen concrete, and a baseline of dignity during a vulnerable time.
"We extend our deepest thanks to REIWA and everyone who donated. We want to say a special thank you to the extraordinary Community REInvest partners who have opened their doors to make this incredible generosity possible."
Financial donations can still be made to The Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal.
