Rescue operation underway after man falls - Wolgan Valley

A rescue operation is under way after an experienced canyoner fell near Lithgow yesterday.

About 3.30pm (Saturday 12 December 2020), emergency services were called to Pipeline Canyon, Wolgan Valley, following reports a man had fallen.

Police were told the 42-year-old man was abseiling when he fell about 4m onto his back.

A Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) was activated by a member of the group and rescue crews were dispatched, however, the man could not be extracted due to weather conditions.

NSW Ambulance paramedics assisted by officers attached to Police Rescue and the Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association stabilised the man overnight and rescue efforts are currently underway to retrieve the him.

The man is in a stable condition with back and elbow injuries.
