Ridesharing driver assaulted, four charged in Caringbah

Four men have been charged over the alleged assault of a ridesharing driver in Sydney’s south yesterday, NSW Police say.

A 28-year-old man was called to Hinkler Avenue at Caringbah about 3.30pm (Sunday 25 March 2018), where he collected a group of men.

The driver stopped a short time later on Taren Point Road after becoming concerned about the behaviour of the passengers.

After asking the group to leave, it’s alleged the driver was pushed to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked in the head.

Motorists pulled up near the group and intervened in the assault; however, one of the males repeatedly kicked a woman’s car when he noticed her taking photos.

Police were alerted and officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command attended and stopped the group as they were attempting to leave in a passing taxi.

All four men – aged 22, 20 and two aged 21 – were arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station where they were charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and affray.

The 20-year-old was also charged with malicious damage.

They were all granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 19 April 2018.
