Riverfirein Brisbane

Police are busy finalising preparations to ensure one of Brisbane's biggest events, Riverfire, is safe and secure for everyone heading out to watch the fireworks spectacle.

Riverfire Commander, Chief Superintendent Stephen Dabinett, said around half a million people were expected to line the banks of Brisbane River for the celebration.

"We are well-versed in planning and preparing for major events, and Riverfire is no exception," Chief Superintendent Dabinett said.

"We will have extra police officers on patrol throughout the city, South Bank, Kangaroo Point and other vantage points across Brisbane, supported by specialist police and partner agency capabilities."

"I am urging everyone coming into the city on Saturday to allow extra travel time and if you are a regular Riverfire attendee please check there are no changes to public transport or your usual route, due to major construction projects in the city."

"Remembering that major road and bridge closures will come into effect from Saturday afternoon together with some parking restrictions."

"Riverfire spectators should also drink responsibly and only within designated areas. Everyone heading to Southbank should be aware that it will be fenced off and drinking alcohol there is not permitted," Chief Superintendent Dabinett said.

"Security will be conducting random bag checks - no sharp objects, glass, opened bottles or cans will be permitted inside the parklands."

"Residents and visitors should never, under any circumstances, leave bags unattended in a public place."

"We want everyone who chooses to head out and celebrate Riverfire to have a safe and fun experience."
