Riverland Road Safety Blitz

Police have detected multiple traffic offences resulting in reports, 28-day car impounds and an arrest.

Between Monday 1 December and Thursday 4 December, officers from the Road Policing Section attended the Riverland area to undertake a pre-Christmas road safety campaign, targeting Fatal Five offences and conducting roadworthiness inspections.

Three drivers were found to be over the legal blood alcohol limit.

A 46-year-old man from Renmark South returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.116. He was issued a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and had his car impounded for 28 days.

A 50-year-old man from Blanchetown returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.077 and due to prior convictions, had his car impounded for 28 days.

A 32-year-old man from Broadview returned a reading of 0.069. He also had his car impounded for 28.

All three will be summonsed to court at a later date.

A total of 48 motorists returned positive roadside drug tests.

A 19-year-old woman was stopped after being detected speeding at 131km/h in a 110km/h zone, breaching her provisional licence conditions and returned a positive drug test for cannabis.

A 23-year-old woman was stopped after being detected speeding at 136km/h in a 110km/h zone, breaching her provisional licence conditions and returning a positive drug test for cocaine.

A number of motorists were also stopped in and around school zones during morning and afternoon periods.

A 31-year-old man returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine with a child in the car. He issued a direction not to drive for a period of 24 hours however he was stopped within that time, again returning a positive drug test for methamphetamine. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence notice.

A 50-year-old man from Berri was stopped for a driver test before becoming argumentative and assaulting a police officer. He was arrested and charged with numerous offences and returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine.

A number of other parents were caught drug driving with children present in school zones.
