RMIT has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian government, during a visit that signals the University's deepening presence and partnerships in the region.

RMIT Vice-President International Layton Pike signed the agreement with The Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf).

The MoU will support greater collaboration in programs and activities across games, film, animation, music, digital technology, cultural arts, and design, building a stronger creative industries ecosystem between the nations.

"We have been working together for some time, and this marks an important step in strengthening our partnership while enhancing support for Indonesia's creative economy," RMIT Vice-President International Layton Pike said.

"It reflects the uniqueness of the collaboration we are building as well as the approach RMIT brings to this partnership. We are also committed to expanding RMIT's presence in Jakarta to further enhance our ambitions and contributions following the signing of this MoU in the years ahead."

During the visit, Deputy Vice-Chancellor College of Vocational Education Mish Eastman also co-chaired a roundtable on the gaming and animation workforce.

It brought together policymakers, industry representatives, and education partners to exchange perspectives and discuss opportunities for collaboration.

"It was a privilege to co-chair and be part of such a vibrant discussion about this growing area of the local work force," Ms Eastman said.

"RMIT University has deep expertise and strong track record in vocational education, particularly within creative education industries, and we look forward to working with Ekraf to support this critical part of the Indonesian economy to thrive now and into the future."

The trip also provided the opportunity for RMIT leadership to reconnect with former students at a networking event for the new RMIT Indonesia alumni chapter, which will launch in May.

The event brought together alumni in Indonesia who have become leaders in their fields and provided an opportunity for them to explore ongoing engagement opportunities with the university in-country.
