The Cook Labor Government will launch the next phase of a crucial road safety media campaign showcasing first responders from WA Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, and St John WA across WA for National Road Safety Week starting today.

Lights, Sirens, Action! educates on the State's Slow Down, Move Over, also known as SLOMO law, that applies to all emergency service vehicles and first responder vehicles including WA Police, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, St John ambulances, roadside assistance, and Main Roads incident response vehicles as well as and tow trucks.

Seatbelts save lives and Lights, Sirens, Action! will go live across television, social media, video on demand, streaming services, and YouTube from 17 May.

The cond campaign, Seatbelts save lives offers a candid insight into the true impact of not wearing a seatbelt when a crash occurs from the point-of-view of the emergency responders first on the scene of a crash.

To reinforce the message on seatbelts, the campaign employs a powerful tagline - "If you see what we see, it would just click".

The two campaigns join a host of road safety campaigns currently in market, including;

No one plans a crash, focusing on dual-income no kids families;

Not worth the (beep) risk, targeting drink driving;

Speeding shatters your excuses;

You See, We See, focusing on police enforcement of drink driving, speeding, and mobile phone use;

Headstone Phone, focusing on phone distractions; and

Caught in a flash, focusing on safety camera awareness; and

Royal Perth Hospital seatbelt extension partnership.

Also in recognition of National Road Safety Week, more than 30 WA landmarks across Western Australia will light up in yellow to shine a light on road safety including Elizabeth Quay, Frasier Avenue Kings Park, the Northbridge Tunnel, Mandurah Traffic Bridge, Red Earth Arts Precinct in Karratha, Bunbury Foreshore, and more.

National Road Safety Week banners will be displayed in the CBD on Kings Park Road, Mounts Bay Road, and St Georges Terrace.

National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways group, partnering road safety organisations and government.

As stated by Police and Road Safety Minister Reece Whitby:

"This National Road Safety Week we're putting a spotlight on two very important road safety initiatives.

"Everyone has a part to play when it comes to road safety, and no one knows that better than our emergency and first responders who witness the aftermath of serious and fatal crashes.

"Moving over when you see flashing lights and wearing your seatbelt are two simple things every driver can do to save lives on WA roads.

"So buckle-up, slow down, don't drink and drive, and put the phone away and help keep Western Australians safe on our roads."
