Ron Rathbone Local History Competition: Bayside 20 April

The Ron Rathbone Local History Competition is back encouraging local historians to explore the diverse history of Bayside.

"This competition plays such an important role in keeping our local history alive and available for future generations," Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.

The Ron Rathbone Local History Competition also honours the memory of Ron Rathbone OAM, a Councillor and former Mayor of the City of Rockdale who was passionate about local heritage and history.

This year there are two categories:

Open Category is for original research into the Bayside area with a prize pool of $6,000

High School Category encourages high school students to learn about our local history, with a prize pool of $2,000.

Last year's winner was Leonie Bell for Stannumville - a look at the News South Wales State Government's scheme to house families in a purpose-built tent town near Daceyville during World War 1.

Entries for the 2023 Ron Rathbone Local History Competition close 20 July 2023.
