RWM at New Scientist Live
Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) will be exhibiting at New Scientist Live (NSL) from 10-13 October, explaining the science which makes the safe and secure management of radioactive waste possible.
At the event, RWM, part of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), will be launching a new public information film about the long-term solution to the safe management of radioactive waste.
Visitors to the stand will be able to take a glimpse into the future, with a virtual reality journey deep underground to the highly engineered tunnels and vaults within a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF), see what radioactive waste containers actually look like, find out about the geology of the UK, and much more.

RWM scientists, waste management specialists, geologists and engineers will also be on hand to help explain how we manage radioactive waste in the UK to protect people and the environment hundreds of thousands of years into the future.

Delegates at NSL will learn about radioactive waste management across four key themes:
- Waste - Where radioactive waste comes from and where it's stored now.
- Waste packaging - How radioactive waste is stored and how we package it ready for safe disposal in a GDF.
- Geosphere - What the geology in your area looks like and the types of geology we need for a GDF.
- Getting it underground - The engineering behind handling radioactive waste and the building of a GDF.
