The 2019-20 Used Car Safety Ratings Guide, which has been partly funded by the Road Trauma Trust Account, is an important and respected tool to assist second-hand vehicle buyers make the safest choices.
The guide provides Western Australians with safety ratings based on the performance data of vehicles involved in more than eight million police reported crashes in Australia and New Zealand.
Safety ratings between 1 and 5 stars have been assigned to 300 makes and models, with Safe Picks status given to the best performing vehicles across all vehicle categories.
The Used Car Safety Ratings Guide is developed by the Vehicle Research Safety Group through the Monash University Accident Research Centre, with support from the Road Safety Commission.

As stated by Police Minister Michelle Roberts:
"The McGowan Government is determined to keep our roads safe.
"Buying safer cars should not just be for those who can afford the latest models.
"Many of these vehicles are available for less than $10,000, and that means that there are safe vehicles available for every budget."
