The Northern Territory Police Force is continuing its search for a 60-year-old man who is believed to have been swept away in floodwaters near Santa Teresa.
Around 7pm on Wednesday 28 October, a vehicle containing a man and a woman had been reportedly swept away by floodwaters while attempting to cross a causeway on Phillipson Bore Road, forcing the two occupants to seek refuge on the roof. The man was subsequently swept off the roof and has not been seen since.
The woman was able to walk back to Santa Teresa where she reported him missing to police yesterday morning and a search operation was launched.
The Search and Rescue Section (SRS) is containing search efforts today, with thermal drone capability operating in the area overnight. Helicopter searches were conducted this morning and will continue throughout the day, while members from the NT Emergency Services have been deployed to support the operation alongside police from Alice Springs and Santa Teresa. Additional SRS personnel and police divers are also currently travelling from Darwin to assist the search effort.
Police hold serious concerns for the man's welfare and anyone who may have seen or heard from him is urged to contact police on 131 444.
