Glass recycling collections are starting across Casey from Monday 2 November, with households receiving their first collection during November.
As the new service rolls out across Casey, your first purple-lidded glass bin collection date will depend on where you live.
The easiest way to know when to put your purple bin out is to check your collection schedule using our online address search tool, the Bin It Right Casey app or the waste guide delivered with your purple bin.
Glass bins will be collected every four weeks, on the same day as every second Food and Garden Organics (FOGO) collection.
What goes in your purple bin?
Your purple bin is for glass bottles and jars that have contained food or drink, of any colour and even if they're broken.
Simply rinse them, remove the lids and place them loosely in the bin. Don't put them in bags.
It's normal for glass to break during collection and processing. By collecting glass separately from other recyclables it can be successfully recycled into new glass products.
Remember, only glass bottles and jars belong in the purple bin. Drinking glasses, crockery, ceramics, window glass and mirrors are not accepted. If broken, these items can go in your general rubbish bin. If they're still in good condition, consider donating or reusing them instead.
Once you've received your purple bin, start using it for accepted glass bottles and jars. These items can no longer go in your yellow-lidded recycling bin.
Find your first collection date
Before putting your bin out, check your address to find your first glass collection date.
You can also download the Bin It Right Casey app for collection schedules, bin night reminders, service updates and information about what goes in each bin.
The glass bin rollout is now more than 80 per cent complete with over 100,000 bins delivered. If you have not received your glass bin yet, no action is required; the remaining households are on track to receive their purple bin by mid-November.
The new service is part of the Victorian Government's requirement for all councils to transition to a standardised four-bin waste and recycling system by July 2027.
