Secretary Blinken's Meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Son

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met today with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Bangkok. Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Son emphasized the strength of the U.S.-Vietnam relationship and the desire of both countries to continue deepening ties. The Secretary and the Foreign Minister discussed how the United States and Vietnam can cooperate to advance security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, including through preserving the international rules-based order in the South China Sea, combatting climate change, and advancing the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity. The two also discussed the importance of working together to strengthen respect for human rights. The Secretary noted he looked forward to the 10th anniversary of the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership in 2023.
