CoE/Secretary General

Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has responded to parliamentarians' questions at the PACE Autumn plenary session.

During a lively Q & A session, the Secretary General underlined the follow-up to the Fourth Summit of the Heads of State and Government Reykjavik agenda, focusing on the ambitious path to reinforce democratic security, stop democratic backsliding and respond to new and evolving challenges for the Organisation, such as the environment, artificial intelligence and the smuggling of migrants.

In addition, she highlighted the importance of the new Programme and Budget cycle 2024-27, asking for parliamentarians' support in the process.

Other questions ranged from the situation of migrants on the Italian island of Lampedusa to the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, as well as on the confidence-building measures (CBMs) for dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The Secretary General reiterated her solidarity with Israel following the Hamas terrorist group's violent attacks.
