Senior correctional officer charged over assault of female inmate

A senior Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged following an investigation into the alleged assault of a female inmate at a Silverwater correctional facility.

Last month, detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad's Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force McInne following a referral from a Silverwater correctional facility after the alleged assault of a female inmate by a senior correctional officer.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 55-year-old woman at a home at Mascot about 8.15am today (Tuesday 6 July 2021).

She was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with common assault and intentionally choke person without consent.

The woman, who is a senior correctional officer, was granted strict conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday 26 July 2021.

She has been suspended by Corrective Services NSW.
