Seven Charged After Bega Police Assault

Four men and three women will face court charged after allegedly assaulting police on the state's south coast.

About 12.10pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 November 2025), police were called to Gipps Street, Bega following reports of alleged drug activity.

On arrival, officers attached to South Coast Police District attempted to speak with a man who was seen speaking with the occupants of a parked car.

Police will allege as officers attempted to speak with the man, he became uncooperative and resisted police efforts.

Upon stopping the man, officers arrested the 26-year-old after allegedly locating almost 4g of methamphetamine in his possession.

Police will allege the man armed himself with a hammer and attempted to flee without success.

Police arrested four occupants of the vehicle – two men aged 34 and 40, and two women aged 33 and 44 – after they allegedly surrounded a male constable and assaulted him.

Police arrested a 64-year-old woman after she allegedly arrived at the scene and obstructed officers in the execution of their duties.

A 40-year-old man, who was under arrest at the time, allegedly punched a male sergeant in the face. The impact caused the officer to fall and strike his head on the concrete, resulting in a laceration near his eye.

A senior constable sustained grazing injuries while attempting to arrest a 30-year-old man, who allegedly arrived at the scene and attempted to obstruct ongoing arrests.

A search of the vehicle allegedly located a quantity of drugs, an extendable baton, a prohibited weapon, drug paraphernalia and scales.

All seven people were taken to taken to Bega Police Station.

The 40-year-old man was charged with three counts hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, two counts assault police officer in the execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts possess prohibited drug and have custody of an offensive implement in a public place.

The 26-year-old man was charged with supply prohibited drug less than small quantity, three counts possess prohibited drug, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty and destroy or damage property.

They were refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Wednesday 12 November 2025).

The 34-year-old man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was given conditional bail to appear before Bega Local Court on Tuesday 23 December 2025.

The 30-year-old man and three woman – aged 33, 44 and 64 – were issued Court Attendance Notices for the offences of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The 30-year-old man and 64-year-old woman will face Bega Local Court on Tuesday 25 November 2025.

The 44-year-old woman will face Bega Local Court on Tuesday 9 December 2025.

The 33-year-old woman will face Bega Local Court on Tuesday 23 December 2025.
