Held as part of National NAIDOC Week (5-12 July), this year's celebrations mark a significant milestone, with the 2026 theme "50 Years of Deadly" recognising five decades of strength, culture and community leadership.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer encouraged residents of all ages to come along and be part of the celebration.
"NAIDOC Community Day is a special opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate the world's oldest continuing cultures and recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples," Mayor Homer said.
"This year's theme honours the strength and resilience of generations past, while celebrating the leadership, creativity and cultural knowledge that continues to shape our community today.
"I encourage everyone to come along, take part in the activities and join us in celebrating culture, connection and community."
The event features a full program of live music, hands-on cultural workshops and interactive activities for all ages, creating opportunities to learn, connect and celebrate together.
Children and families can enjoy a range of creative activities, games and cultural experiences, while connecting with local organisations and learning more about Aboriginal culture and heritage.
"We're proud to work alongside our community partners to create opportunities that foster understanding, respect and connection," Mayor Homer said.
"NAIDOC Week is an important time to listen, learn and reflect, and events like this help bring our community together in a meaningful way."
There's also a special exhibition at Shellharbour Civic Centre celebrating 50 Years of Deadly throughout July, featuring iconic NAIDOC posters from across the decades alongside a collection of photographs of local NAIDOC celebrations and community events.
National NAIDOC Week is held each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to encourage all Australians to engage with First Nations communities and culture.
