Nick Duigan, Minister for Parks

In an increasingly data-enriched landscape, the Rockliff Liberal Government is building the workforce of the future that will continue to leverage Tasmania's natural competitive advantages.

The Tasmanian Spatial Information Council (TASSIC) Workforce Development Forum is being held in Hobart this week involving leading spatial practitioners, representatives from government, and education sectors to present insights in the geospatial sector.

Minister for Parks, Nick Duigan, in opening the Forum, noted the opportunity that spatial intelligence presented to many facets of Tasmanian industry, in particular in the construction industry.

"All building and construction activity depends on surveying and spatial expertise," Minister Duigan said.

"The Rockliff Liberal Government has secured a $27 billion infrastructure pipeline over the next decade that will require a skilled surveying and geospatial workforce that's truly the best of the best.

"With an 80 per cent increase in demand for spatial expertise in recent years, there has never been a better opportunity for Tasmanians to establish themselves in the industry," Minister Duigan concluded.

Expanding on Tasmania's skilled surveying and spatial workforce is a key component of the Rockliff Liberal Government's long-term plan, which has created over 54,000 jobs and delivered an economy that Tasmanian families can be truly proud of.
