Snowy Monaro Urban Roads Set for Major Upgrades

Heavy patching work is set to begin next week on important urban roads across Berridale, Bombala and Cooma.

This work is part of Council's unprecedented investment into the Snowy Monaro's road network this financial year, joining the significant program of urban road resealing that got underway in January 2024.

More than a dozen roads across the three towns will see significantly damaged sections of the road surface removed and replaced.

Residents and businesses located on roads scheduled for resealing will receive a letter from Council's contractor two weeks prior to the commencement of work.

It is critical that businesses and residents on roads scheduled for heavy patching organise alternative parking while work is underway.

Any vehicles remaining on the street during these roadworks will negatively affect the quality of the completed road surface.

This work is part of Council's ongoing investment into our region's road network. Snowy Monaro Regional Council is responsible for maintaining 2,647km of roads across the region – the third highest figure for any Council in NSW.

Council invests millions of dollars every year into our region's roads. This wider schedule of significant improvements are ratepayer funds in action, supported by generous grant funding from the NSW and Australian Governments.

The majority of funds raised through the 2023/24 special rate variation are being directly invested into roads across the region. This substantial commitment will make travel across the Snowy Monaro faster, safer and more economical for all road users.

While this work has been scheduled in advance, delays and other changes can occur. Poor weather is a common cause for these delays, as is urgent maintenance work that can require the temporary redirection of teams and equipment.
