Spains Power Outage: Australias Alert

Family First Party

The collapse of the electricity grid in Spain and Portugal due to the system's reliance on windmills and solar panels should be a wake-up call for Australia, Family First said today.

The Iberian Peninsula blackout is further proof, if it were needed, that so-called renewable energy cannot power modern economies.

As both Labor and the Coalition shut cheap and reliable coal-fired power stations while providing taxpayer subsidies to renewables, it is only a matter of time before the Australian Energy Market Operator's long-time warnings of blackouts here are realised.

Australia's electricity prices have already been driven through the roof thanks to net zero zealotry and this in turn has driven families' cost-of-living crisis.

Family First renews its call for Labor and the Coalition to abandon the Paris accords and conduct a whole of system engineering and economic feasibility study of Australia's future energy needs.

If Australians want zero emissions, proper costings, including that of nuclear energy, should be presented.
