State Memorial Service For Jane Garrett

VIC Premier

A State Memorial Service for the Honourable Jane Garrett will be held at the Brunswick Town Hall at 11am on Friday 2 September 2022.

Ms Garrett served the Victorian community for more than 20 years as an MP, a councillor and lawyer, entering the Victorian Parliament as the Member for Brunswick in 2010 and serving for two terms.

During this time Ms Garrett was the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, Minister for Emergency Services, Parliamentary Secretary and Shadow Cabinet Secretary.

In 2018 Ms Garrett was elected to the Legislative Council as the Member for Eastern Victoria.

Ms Garrett had previously served as an adviser to Premier Steve Bracks from 2000 to 2004 and was a lawyer at Slater and Gordon from 2004 to 2010. She was elected to Yarra City Council in 2008 and served as Mayor in 2010.

Ms Garrett was a passionate advocate for the rights of working people and spent her career fighting for safer and more secure jobs. Her commitment to education, equality, and social justice for all was clear.

On behalf of the Victorian Government, our thoughts remain with Ms Garrett's children Molly, Sasha and Max, her husband James, and her friends and colleagues.

Doors for the State Memorial Service will open at 10am with the Service commencing at 11am.

In lieu of floral tributes and in keeping with Ms Garrett's passion for community, her family have asked for contributions to be made to the Smith Family at www.thesmithfamily.com.au/donateExternal Link.

The service will also be live streamed at vic.gov.au/jane-garrettExternal Link for those unable to attend in person.
