- David Harwood appointed as a new full-time member of the State Administrative Tribunal
- The experienced legal practitioner joins three other members who have been reappointed
- Members to bring vast experience, skills and knowledge to the tribunal
David Harwood has been appointed as a new member of the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) together with three reappointed members.
Mr Harwood served as a Senior Assistant State Solicitor at the State Solicitor's Office for the past 12 years in litigation and dispute resolution in medical negligence, asbestos diseases and coronial matters. He also undertook related mediations and led legal teams as counsel.
His appointment as a full-time ordinary member of SAT coincides with the reappointments of full-time ordinary members Vanessa Haigh, Rochelle Lavery and Ross Povey, all on five-year terms.
Experienced lawyer Ms Haigh worked previously as an arbitrator at WorkCover WA and has mediated and presided over SAT hearings in guardianship and administrations matters.
Ms Lavery, a former City of Subiaco chief executive, and Mr Povey, who has an architecture and town planning background, have mediated and presided over hearings in development and resources matters.
Both have served as SAT panel members, contributing to decisions on guardianship, administration, and vocational regulation matters.
As stated by Attorney General Dr Tony Buti:
"I welcome David Harwood to the State Administrative Tribunal as a new full-time ordinary member after his distinguished service with the State Solicitor's Office.
"During his career there he regularly appeared in multiple courts in complex matters including high-profile coronial inquests.
"I also congratulate Vanessa Haigh, Rochelle Lavery and Ross Povey on being reappointed as full-time ordinary members of SAT.
"All members have extensive expertise in conducting hearings and mediations and will continue to efficiently administer the tribunal's high-volume workload."
