Detectives have charged three teenagers after two drivers were assaulted and their cars stolen in Townsville yesterday afternoon.
It will be alleged around 5pm, a boy stole keys from a 69-year-old man who was seated outside an Aitkenvale shopping centre. The victim attempted to stop the boy stealing his vehicle, which was parked nearby, when he was punched twice in the head. A boy and girl then allegedly drove off in the victim's Toyota Rav4.
Around 7.50pm, a 46-year-old woman was sitting in her Toyota Corolla at a Kirwin shopping centre when two youths got out of a Rav4 and approached the woman. She was punched in the face a number of times and threatened with a knife. The woman got out of the car and the two teenagers drove away in the Corolla accompanied by the Rav4.
Around 8.45pm, the stolen Corolla hit another vehicle heading south on Riverway Drive at Condon before hitting hit a tree in the medium strip and flipping onto its roof. Four youths fled the vehicle but were located a short time later by police.
A 12-year-old Cranbrook boy has been charged with one count each of armed robbery with personal violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
A 14-year-old Heatley girl has been charged with two counts each of armed robbery with personal violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
A 16-year-old Gulliver boy has been charged with personal violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He has also been charged with one count of assault police.
The three juveniles will appear in the Townsville Childrens Court today.
