Strong BASSINTHEGRASS perfect launch to Dry Season

NT Government

The Territory's largest music festival, BASSINTHEGRASS, has wrapped up for another year with almost 14,000 people packing out Mindil Beach and enjoying music from some of Australia's brightest music stars.

The event has helped launch what is set to be another busy dry season in the Territory, with AFL fixtures, Barunga Festival, the betr Darwin TripleCrown SuperCars Indigenous Round, Darwin Festival and many more still to come, following the success of Parrtjima - A Festival in Light, the NRL fixture and plenty of others so far in 2023.

Major events yield significant reward to the Territory economy, and just six major events in 2021/22 generated a stimulus of $118 million in the 2021/22 Financial Year, and delivered 276,239 visitor nights, while last year's BASSINTHEGRASS generated $15.8 million, of which $11.1 million was new money.

The Territory's events season also provides a boost for our local businesses and economy, who reap the rewards of visiting tourists, wanting to make the most of their Territory experience.

BASSINTHEGRASS will return to Mindil Beach next year, with the date to be announced later this year. Sign up to be one of the first to know at [http://www.bassinthegrass.com.au]

Quotes attributable to Minister for Major Events, Paul Kirby:

"What a great weekend we had thanks to BASSINTHEGRASS, with thousands descending on Mindil Beach to dance under palm trees and clear blue skies against the backdrop of a stunning sunset.

"Just over a quarter of attendees made the journey from interstate to attend, and this is a massive boost for our economy as they spend money across a range of sectors, most notably tourism and hospitality."

Quotes attributable to DoubleTree Hotels and Hilton Garden Inn, NT Cluster General Manager, Todd Grierson:

"Over the course of the BASSINTHEGRASS Weekend, our clientele demographic significantly shifted towards a much younger age group than we traditionally cater for, from both the southern states and the outskirts of the greater Darwin area coming to stay.

"While here, our guests make the most of their stay visiting restaurants, shops and tourist operators, so it's great to see businesses throughout Darwin reaping the rewards of the festival."
