In a historic move, the Finocchiaro CLP Government has today passed the Bail and Youth Justice Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 through an emergency recall of Parliament.
This Bill delivers the strongest bail laws in the country and puts community safety at the heart of our justice system.
Today we sent a clear message - community safety comes first.
Our government will never shy away from doing what's necessary to protect Territorians.
We have acted urgently and decisively, because lives depend on it.
The legislation follows a series of reforms, including Declan's Law, and comes after the tragic death of Nightcliff shop owner Linford Feick - an event that shocked and united the Territory community.
The Bill will now be provided to the Administrator of the Northern Territory for formal consideration.
