Students set to score with Templestowe College community sports hub

Liberal Party Victoria

Families, students and residents across Templestowe and surrounding communities are set to benefit under a new commitment announced today by the Liberals and Nationals.

A Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $15 million for a brand new multi-purpose indoor sports hub at Templestowe College, providing a state-of-the-art facility that will benefit both school and the local community.

In 2009, Templestowe College had a student cohort of only 250 students, but after more than a decade of growth and over 1200 students, the school lacks the necessary sporting facilities to cater for school classes and its Elite Sport Development Program.

Delivery of the new facility will see construction of a new indoor sports hub with three competition size basketball courts, male and female change rooms, retractable seating, a canteen, and storage and office space. The facility will be fully accessible to students and residents with disability requirements.

The local community of more than 370 junior and senior basketball teams will also have a new space to call home, giving the Bulleen Templestowe Basketball Club and Eastern District Junior Basketball Association the space they need as they struggle to keep up with growing demand and participation.

Leader of the Liberal Party and Member for Bulleen, Matthew Guy, said he was delighted to offer students, families and the local community the outstanding facilities they deserve.

"Students have missed out on two years of learning - impacting their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing during their crucial developmental years and upgrades like this will get them back on track."

"Local sporting clubs are a vital part of my local community and a Liberals and Nationals Government I lead is proud to support Templestowe College and grassroots sport with this commitment."
