Sunshine Coast projects share in almost $86 million

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure The Honourable Dr Steven Miles

A new boardwalk around Caloundra Headland, construction of Stage 1 of the McKinnon Drive Community Sports Facility and investigation and planning for future Transit Hubs in Noosa are among infrastructure and planning projects across the state to receive funding thanks to the Palaszczuk Government.

Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said the projects, funded as part of the $86 million. Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP), would have a positive impact on the community.

"This Government is committed to working with our councils to invest in infrastructure that benefit local communities," Mr Hunt said.

"We're awarding $980,000 to Sunshine Coast Regional Council for the Caloundra Headland Coastal Pathway project.

"This project will see a new boardwalk around Caloundra Headland that will link to Kings Beach and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympics live festival site.

"The project encompasses a new 3m wide, disability compliant, shared path and boardwalk with viewing areas, resting areas, associated road modifications, landscaping, revegetation and turtle friendly lighting.

"The boardwalk will be strategically located to take advantage of the expansive views of the ocean, Kings Beach headland and the National Heritage listed Glass House Mountains, while remaining sensitive to the surrounding vegetation."

"Additional, this project will create local jobs and provide an economic boost for our community."

Deputy Premier and Minister for Local Government Steven Miles said it was just one of 80 infrastructure and planning projects to share in almost $86 million.

"This grants program is designed to support councils to deliver priority infrastructure projects that improve the liveability of communities and support economic growth and employment," Mr Miles said.

"The successful projects tick all the boxes, with the 80 approved projects expected to create approximately 1,800 jobs in areas where they are most needed.

"That's a great result for local economies, the councils and their communities, and there are many more projects to be announced."

As well as going towards new infrastructure, the LGGSP is also aimed at extending the functional life of existing infrastructure and improving asset management, helping councils stretch their budgets.

Noosa Shire Council will receive $390,000 for construction of Stage 1 of the McKinnon Drive Community Sports Facility. The Project will deliver a multi-use community facility in an active community hub for organised sport, events, and recreation.

Projects can commence from 1 July 2022 and must be delivered by 30 June 2024.
