- Crisafulli Government delivers major upgrades at popular Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct for 2032 and beyond.
- Works include a new accessible gym, recovery space, upgraded accommodation, and emergency access road.
- The Crisafulli Government is funding $64.2m of upgrades to State-owned and operated sport and recreation venues in the lead up to 2032 after a decade of neglect under the former Labor Government.
The Crisafulli Government has delivered new and improved facilities at the Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct for the local community to enjoy for 2032 and beyond.
The project included a new accessible gym, recovery space including sauna and ice bath, office spaces and an additional emergency access road.
The upgrades will encourage greater active participation and better support for athletes on the performance pathway through to elite across Queensland after a decade of neglect under the former Labor government.
The popular State-owned and operated venue at Currimundi welcomed nearly 93,000 visitors over the last 12 months, including school, sport and community groups.
The Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of delivering legacy projects across Queensland for local sporting organisations and clubs, by getting the Games back on track after 1,200 days of Labor's Games chaos.
The coastal walkway project at the Currimundi venue is set to be completed in the second half of the year.
Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said the Crisafulli Government was delivering a once-in-a-generation infrastructure legacy for the Sunshine Coast.
"We're just over six years away from hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and we're delivering the generational sporting infrastructure to support current and future athletes, creating opportunities for local communities and leaving a lasting legacy long after the final whistle is blown," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
"The Sunshine Coast is at the heart of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games preparations, and the Crisafulli Government is delivering the infrastructure our region needs not just for the Games, but for decades beyond.
"From the new Sunshine Coast Stadium to the Athletes Village, we are investing in the facilities that will support local communities, attract major events, create jobs and help grow our region long after 2032.
"These projects are about creating opportunities for local athletes to train and compete closer to home, giving community sporting clubs access to world-class facilities and ensuring the Sunshine Coast leaves a legacy from the Games."
Acting Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Andrew Powell said the community would benefit from new, modern and fit-for-purpose facilities.
"Our Queensland sport venues are well-loved by their communities, welcoming hundreds of thousands of people every year and supporting school, sport and community groups," Minister Powell said.
"These improvements at the Sunshine Coast Recreation Precinct will help the venue to meet growing demand, welcome more community members and support the next generation of sporting talent.
"Queensland is the home of Australian sport and the Precinct's new gym not only provides modern, accessible facilities, it will support more locals to be active and healthy."
