Six stars of the Surf Coast Arts Trail are sharing reflections on their creative inspirations and practices as part of a new promotion in partnership with K rock 95.5 and bay 83.9 radio.
Ruth Blackhirst, Andrew Middlehurst, Grant Finck, Emily Wright, Tal Lemmens, and Veronica McDonald have been in the studio recording profiles which will help promote the Trail to listeners across the Surf Coast, Geelong and beyond.
Cr Mike Bodsworth said Trail organisers are excited to welcome K rock 95.5 and bay 93.9 as official Surf Coast Arts Trail media partners, and to take up the new opportunity to celebrate and promote Surf Coast Shire's creative sector.
"As the Trail continues to grow, we are always looking for new and engaging ways to connect with audiences, and to showcase the immense creative talent we have across Surf Coast Shire," Cr Bodsworth said.
"This partnership will vastly increase our reach and is about more than promoting the event. It is also about providing another platform for local artists to share their stories and connect with audiences.
"Putting artists at the centre of this campaign enables listeners to hear authentic stories from the makers themselves, helping to create touchpoints and offer glimpses into work behind the artworks.
"And it reflects what makes the Trail so special – the way it provides opportunities to meet artists, hear their stories, learn about techniques, and be where creativity happens."
This year's 16th annual Trail on 1 and 2 August will feature about 60 studios, galleries and creative spaces showcasing the works of more than 300 artists. Up to 15,000 visitors are expected across the two days.
K rock 95.5 and bay 93.9 General Manager Rachel Patterson said K rock 95.5 and bay 93.9 are thrilled to partner with the Trail.
"Our listeners love discovering the hidden gems in their own backyard, and this event showcases an incredible depth of local talent. With more than half of local people tuning in to local radio each week we're excited to help amplify the impact of the trail and encourage even more people to explore and celebrate the diverse range of artists, makers and creators who call our region home.
"Radio and the arts share something very special – powerfully connecting people through storytelling. We are so pleased to have this opportunity to help share the stories, passion and creative journeys of the local artists who make this even so special.
"The Trail not only showcases exceptional artistic talent, it also supports local businesses, attracts visitors and strengthens connections across our community. We hope the reach of our stations can help make 2026 the biggest and most successful Trail yet."
