Suspicious Fire Appeal At Normanton

Police are appealing for public assistance following a series of suspicious bush fires in the Normanton region overnight, 26 August.

Initial investigations indicate between 7pm and 8.30pm about four fires were deliberately lit along the Burke Development Road, Gulf Development Road and Burketown Normanton Road.

About 8.55pm police were notified and the fires have continued to burn overnight spreading across the region.

At this stage, no one has been injured, no roads are closed and there has been no structural damage.

Police are urging residents and visitors in the region to stay up to date with the latest emergency warnings and to avoid travelling through affected areas.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or has relevant dashcam vision to contact police.

Investigations are continuing.
