Swinburne and UP Education to deliver in-demand vocational education courses online

Swinburne is partnering with UP Education to deliver a suite of key in-demand vocational education courses online from early 2021.

The new partnership is called Swinburne Open Education and aims to support those who are currently working in industry to reskill or upskill.

This latest venture builds on Swinburne's existing partnership with UP Education - Swinburne Academy - which delivers Swinburne's English language and pathway programs.

Delivering in-demand courses

The initial suite of courses that will be delivered through Swinburne Open Education are some of the most in-demand areas nationally and include:

  • Certificate II in Construction Pathways
  • Certificate III in Early Childhood and Care
  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)
  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)
  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
  • Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping
  • Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health
  • Certificate IV in Youth Work
  • Certificate IV in Community Services
  • Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
  • Certificate IV in Building and Construction.

The courses will be delivered through UP Education's newly developed online learning platform. Each of the courses also includes practical components that can be completed in the student's workplace or as part of a placement. Through Swinburne Open Education, students will have access to teachers for ongoing support.

The suite of courses will be offered nationally and will provide flexibility for students to enrol at any time and learn at their own pace.

Swinburne Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Pathways and Vocational Education) Lisa Line says the extension of Swinburne's partnership with UP Education will provide more opportunities for professionals looking to upskill or reskill in areas of national interest.

"Swinburne Open Education is exciting because it opens up some of the most in-demand vocational education certificates to those looking for a way to study that suits their work and life commitments. More and more we know that flexibility is key when it comes to education and learning opportunities."

UP Education, Group CEO Mark Rushworth says it's critical that upskilling and retraining fits in with lives of the learners.

"We are thrilled to be partnering again with Swinburne University of Technology on this exciting new initiative, particularly with a record number of adult learners expected to enter the education system next year.

"Online and blended learning is a fast-emerging and powerful development that changes the ways learners from all walks of life can engage with education. It offers increased accessibility, flexibility, diversity of study opportunities, and enhanced ways of learning."
