Swinburne has strengthened its support of elite sporting pathways for women by renewing a sponsorship deal with Richmond Football Club's AFL Women's team for another year.
This sponsorship deal builds on Swinburne's existing partnership with Richmond Football Club, which commenced in 2017 and includes student placements and internships, as well as research collaborations opportunities.
Pursuing a career in psychology
Richmond AFLW player, Monique Conti started at Swinburne during Semester 2 2020, studying a Bachelor of Psychological Sciences.
"I've always had a strong interest in psychology since high school," says Monique.
"When COVID-19 hit, it became clear that mental health will become an area of priority in the recovery process, so I decided to enrol at Swinburne and have been loving my course so far. I've especially enjoyed having different experts deliver lectures; the opportunity to learn from a wide range of people and pick their brains is priceless," she adds.
Monique says that while online learning provides greater flexibility, it has also taught her to be more disciplined in managing her time.
"Online learning can be challenging, but it made me knuckle down and develop a routine, and it made me more accountable for my studies. I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can get out of my course and to be able to attend my classes in-person once it's safe to do so," Monique adds.
Balancing work and study
Not only is she a star AFLW player, Monique also plays for the Southside Flyers in the Women's National Basketball League. When it comes to balancing her studies and career, she credits Swinburne for supporting athletes with their studies.
"I'd heard positive feedback about Swinburne's support and flexibility in allowing athletes to complete their studies and I've found this to be true. I'm truly grateful to Swinburne for their flexibility when it comes to assignment deadlines and helping me develop a balance between sports and my studies," says Monique.
From strength to strength
The renewal of the sponsorship deal further solidifies the partnership between Swinburne and Richmond.
