Tasmanians Pay More for Power as Liberals Waste Money on Ads

Tasmanian Labor

The Liberal government's decision to spend at least $1 million on an advertising campaign telling Tasmanians about the benefits of renewable energy is an insult to every Tasmanian paying exorbitant power prices.

Will they announce how much they have spent making this? How much they will spend showing it?

Tasmanian families and businesses are already struggling under the weight of massive power price rises due to this government breaking its election promise to take us out of the National Electricity Market.

And they are facing further hikes from 1 June, which will only increase the pressure.

Tasmania's major industrials are facing even more uncertainty, with the government refusing to deny Project Marinus could increase their transmission costs by around 40 per cent.

With Tasmanians already facing so much hardship from power prices alone, does this government really think it is a good use of taxpayer money to spend at least $1 million telling then what they already know?

Tasmanians love the Hydro. They have for 100 years and what they really want to know is why, after investing in the Hydro for a century, the Liberals' broken promises mean they are no longer paying Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power.

A Tasmania Labor Government will re-establish the electricity rebate scheme that was in place in 2018 and cap power price increases at 2.5 per cent each year for the next three years, saving households around $500 a year and businesses thousands. Tasmanians deserve to pay Tasmanian prices for Tasmanian power instead of having their money wasted on pointless advertising.
