Public school teacher and climate activist Campbell Gome will recontest the state seat of Northcote for the Greens in the 2026 state election - after coming within just 184 votes of victory in 2022, making Northcote the most marginal seat in Victoria.
Campbell has spent his life campaigning for climate and social justice, shaped by the values of his Jewish mother, Scottish father and Gunditjmara stepfather.
A familiar face in the community, Campbell has lived and worked in Northcote for more than thirty years, raising two daughters, starting his teaching career at Thornbury Primary, and volunteering with countless local groups.
As a teacher, Campbell says his duty of care to the students in his classroom drives him to put his hand up for Parliament. That commitment has only deepened as Labor secretly ripped $2.4 billion from public schools, while continuing to push ahead with dozens of new fossil fuel projects including gas drilling near the 12 Apostles.
Northcote is a progressive, diverse community that cares about climate, equality and a fairer future. As a local teacher and campaigner, Campbell has the experience and determination to deliver the bold leadership people want on climate action, affordable housing and renters' rights.
As stated by the Victorian Greens candidate for Northcote, Campbell Gome:
"I'm not a career politician, I'm a teacher, and I see the future in my classroom every day. I feel a deep duty of care to those kids who'll inherit the consequences of choices being made now. But instead of investing in them, Labor has ripped $2.4 billion from our schools, approved dozens of fossil fuel projects including gas drilling near the 12 Apostles, while rents in Northcote soar and young people are being priced out of our community.
"Northcote deserves bold, determined leadership that truly reflects our progressive values. Labor has let us down, but the Greens came within a whisker last time, and this time, we can turn Northcote Green."
As stated by the Leader of the Victorian Greens, Ellen Sandell:
"Campbell came within just 184 votes of winning Northcote last election, making it the most marginal seat in the state. That shows how close we are to turning Northcote Green and how much this community wants bold, progressive leadership."
"Campbell is a teacher and climate activist who lives and breathes the values of this community. With Campbell in Parliament, Northcote can have a powerful local voice fighting for a fairer, more equal future, climate action, fully funded schools and affordable rents and housing."
