A teenage boy remains before the courts after an alleged car theft and police pursuit in the state's Central West region over the weekend.

About 3.15pm Saturday 27 June 2026, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were called to a car wash on Macquarie Street, Dubbo, after reports of a stolen vehicle.

On arrival, police were told a Mitsubishi SUV was allegedly stolen from the business before the vehicle collided with a pole and drove from the location.

Officers attached to Western Region Operations Support Group, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Central West Police District and Orana Mid Western Police District commenced patrols throughout the Dubbo and Orange areas.

Following extensive inquiries, about 4.30pm the same day, the allegedly stolen vehicle was located travelling south on the Mitchell Highway north of Molong.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle; however, the driver allegedly failed to stop.

Spikes were successfully deployed near Molong; however, the driver continued through the township.

A short time later, the vehicle was stopped by police, south of Molong.

The driver, a 13-year-old boy, was arrested and taken to Orange Police Station, where he was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly.
