A teenager will face court today charged after a boy's hand was severed during an alleged assault yesterday evening.
About 6pm (Wednesday 2 September 2026), emergency services were called to an oval on Redfern Street, Redfern, following reports of a concern for welfare.
On arrival, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command located a 17-year-old boy with a severed hand.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the boy before he was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Police were told the 17-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by another boy with a knife in a carpark on Morehead Road, Redfern.
An investigation into the incident commenced, with crime scenes established on Redfern Street and Morehead Road, Redfern.
Following inquiries, about 12.15am today (Thursday 3 September 2026), officers stopped a vehicle travelling west on Redfern Street, Redfern.
A short time later, police arrested a 15-year-old boy nearby.
The 15-year-old was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and breach of bail.
He was refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Thursday 3 September 2026).
