Today the Palaszczuk Government unveiled HEALTHQ32, its 10-year vision for the future of healthcare in Queensland.
Queenslanders will benefit from new models of care and services, better technologies and treatments, and stronger community partnerships to improve the patient experience and their health outcomes.
HEALTHQ32 also aims to boost the health workforce across the state through increasing opportunities for staff mobility, developing new workforce models for surgical services, and partnering with universities to increase student intake.
The 10-year vision builds on the Palaszczuk Government's record $9.78 billion investment in the Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan and was developed in consultation with the state's health workers, care partners, peak bodies, and consumers.
Consultation found changing community expectations meant there was a need to shift the health system's focus from treating illness to maintaining wellness.
The Palaszczuk Government is already implementing a raft of measures aligned to HEALTHQ32's vision, including:
- Increasing virtual health services to provide more care options closer to home.
- Growing Rapid Access Services across the state to streamline access to specialist care and reduce wait times in emergency departments.
- Increasing access to urgent care through the state's Satellite Hospitals and working with the Federal Government to establish 11 Urgent Care Clinics.
- Partnering with universities to increase student intake across health professional groups, and to offer accelerated programs into health careers.
- Establishing health pathways from school traineeships to graduate programs, including expanding the Deadly Start traineeship program.
- Creating staff digital passports to support health worker mobility across the state.
- Developing sustainable workforce models for surgical services that better meet the needs of regional, rural and remote communities.
HEALTHQ32 addresses the challenges all health systems across the globe are facing by reducing demand pressures, responding to workforce shortages, and managing rising costs, while improving access, equity and quality.
