Police are encouraging motorcycle and scooter owners to secure their property, after a recent increase in theft across southern Tasmania.
"Thankfully advances in technology have made modern cars significantly more difficult to steal, but this means thieves now seem to be targeting motorcycles and scooters" said Detective Sergeant Daniel Walton.
"Incidents of stealing can be prevented if people reduce the opportunity," he said.
"Make sure your motorcycle or scooter is locked, and park it out of view whenever possible."
Tasmania Police encourages all motorcycle/scooter owners to:
- Avoid parking a motorcycle where it is easily visible from the street, preferably in a locked garage or behind a backyard gate. If you have home CCTV, consider parking in a place where it is visible.•
- Use and/or install an aftermarket security device, such as a tamper alarm, GPS tracker, or security chain. Disc locks are convenient when away from the home address and provide some degree of protection but do not stop the motorcycle being lifted and removed.
- Be wary of posting any location identifying features or providing a garage address when selling across social media platforms.
